  Average. I would love to have these guys be my 'go to butcher', but I can't. The quality of their meat has been hit and miss. While some days I'll get a fantastic roast, or a great steak, there are just as many days where I get a pile of connective tissue and end pieces. They are just too unreliable. For example, we have a family gathering today (with a long BBQ cook ahead of us), I bought some "USA pork ribs". They looked great in the window - a nice wide rib, with a long bone. Unfortunately there was one good rib for display 'on top', so when I got home I found the other three racks were short 1-1.5" bits of rib. Also half of the 'rack' wasn't even rib, it was just a lump of pork with no bones. So yeah, I got a stack of meat, but it's not what I was planning on cooking - now I don't have enough ribs to serve. To the owner's credit, he didn't hesitate when I told him I was unhappy with the product, he suggested I could bring it back. But, I've run out of time, I need to have the ribs on my smoker with enough time to cook. Mucking around with replacements is just not possible any more. Yes, probably it's shame on me for not checking the quality of the meat I received before it was time to cook. While I was on the phone the owner told me that the ribs didn't look right, and he apologised and said they buy the ribs in from a supplier. BUT, the issue I have with this response is that some staff there packed the ribs in to the display tray. Claiming you "didn't know" that the ribs weren't right until 'just now' just doesn't float. I wouldn't have left a review if this was a one off. But I've had: a pork belly that was 95% fat with almost no meat (again, it looked great rolled up in the window); I've had a beef 'rib roast' that wasn't a single lump of meat but folded up bits of 'flat' that fell apart; I've had sausages with too much gristle; I even bought dog bones and asked specifically if they were 'split' in half to find they weren't and were too big for my dogs to eat. These are problems I don't seem to have with other butchers. Taken 'once off' none of these problems are serious. I could just be unlucky, and I admit, when the meat has been good, it's been excellent. Unfortunately, the lack of consistency is critical for me. I wish Meixner's well and hope for their success (I really don't like buying from Coles). Summary: Definitely worth a try, but check the product well before you are out of time to cook. When it's good, it's excellent, but I've personally had several poor experiences with them and just can't support them any longer.
